Esha Deol Says Hema Malini and Family Imposed Restrictions During Periods: 'We Were Not Allowed To...'

Dhoom actress Esha Deol opened up the restrictions that were imposed on her during her periods. The actress, who is the daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra, revealed that her house was run and managed by women. She said she grew up with Hema, her grandmother Jaya Chakravarthy and her grand aunt. During her growing up days, Esha confessed, there were no open conversations about periods at home.

Speaking with Hauterrfly, Esha said, “We were not allowed to go to the temple and pray. When it is done, you can wash your hair and then you can pray. That’s just an orthodox way and I follow, I respect if that’s a part of the house you live in.” Most houses in India still follow the tradition.

Meanwhile, Esha shared that she learnt about sex education at school. “I learnt about it at school. Our school had sex education and they taught us well and at the right time. And it is important. There are a few parents who are feel uncomfortable and shy,” she said.

In the chat, Esha revealed her grandmother was strict while growing up and kept a close eye on everyone walking into the house. “My grandmother was very strict. We were not allowed to wear spaghettis and short skirts and go out. My grandmother was the CCTV camera of the house. As soon as me and my friends would walk into the house, my nani would be watching TV and through her specs, she would see who was coming and leaving. My friends who would come to meet me, they would come wearing whatever they want inside but on top, they would wear a shirt and remove it in my room. Late nights were not allowed,” she said.
